The United States (US) arm of Honda will start rolling out the 2023 CR-V by next week.
It will be made available in seven trims, although only the four turbocharged versions of the midsize sport utility vehicle (SUV) will be available in September 22. The three hybrid models will follow in October.
The four turbocharged trims are the Honda CR-V EX two-wheel-drive (2WD), EX all-wheel-drive (AWD), EX-L 2WD, and EX-L AWD. The three hybrid variants, on the other hand, are the CR-V Sport 2WD, Sport AWD, and Sport Touring AWD.
“The all-new Honda CR-V raises the bar in every conceivable way — design, performance, safety and technology and the most fun-to-drive CR-V we’ve ever made,” said American Honda Vice President of Auto Sales Mamadou Diallo.
All four crossovers coming to the US within the month are fitted with a 1.5-liter turbocharged Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control System (VTEC) engine mated to a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) that has been retuned for improved response. This setup gives the turbocharged Honda CR-V EX and EX-L variants a maximum power output of 190 horsepower (hp) and about 245Nm of torque.
When it comes to standard equipment, the base trim Honda CR-V EX offers a new easy-to-use seven-inch touchscreen audio system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also has heated front seats, partial digital instrumentation, dual-zone automatic climate control, a one-touch power sliding moonroof, heated outside mirrors, LED headlights, and a set of 18-inch wheels.
The Honda CR-V EX-L, on the other hand, builds from the standard features offered on the EX variation. It adds a set of leather seats, a larger nine-inch infotainment system, a Qi-compatible 15-watt wireless smartphone charger, an upgraded eight-speaker audio system, and Low-Speed Braking Control.
Meanwhile, the hybrid models — Honda CR-V Sport 2WD, Sport AWD, and the Sport Touring AWD — use a combination of Japanese automaker’s refined 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder engine and its fourth-generation two-motor hybrid-electric system featuring a pair of larger electric motors now mounted side-by-side.
The setup makes a total of 204 horses with around 335Nm of torque.
Moreover, the hybrid powertrain brings a major fuel economy benefit compared to the 1.5-liter Turbo powertrain, with a US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) city rating of 43 miles per gallon (mpg) — or 18.2 kilometers per liter (kpl) — for the Honda CR-V Sport (2WD) model versus 28mpg (11.9kpl) for the Honda CR-V EX 2WD and EX-L 2WD options. The combined EPA rating (city and highway) for the Honda CR-V Sport 2WD is 40mpg (17kpl) while the EX 2WD and EX-L 2WD variations clock in at 30mpg (12.7kpl).
In terms of equipment, the 2023 Honda CR-V Sport features gloss black exterior accents, rectangular exhaust finishers, and a set of Berlina Black 18-inch wheels. Inside, Sport-specific seating finishes as well as a leather-wrapped shift knob and a steering wheel are standard.
The range-topping Honda CR-V Sport Touring gets larger 19-inch wheels. Inside, a new 12-speaker Bose premium audio system with Bose Centerpoint technology and SurroundStage digital signal processing has been custom-engineered to deliver an optimal listening experience for all passengers regardless of their seating position. Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System and Wi-Fi Hotspot capability are also standard.
The sixth-generation Honda CR-V will be built in three plants in North America, namely the East Liberty Auto Plant in Ohio, the Indiana Auto Plant, and Honda of Canada Mfg., continuing the 40-year legacy of Honda’s commitment to building products close to the customer.
