25 years is quite a long journey for a car. In the PH auto industry, only a few nameplates can proudly proclaim that they survived and are still present in this era. One of them is Honda’s iconic car, the Civic.
Launched in 1991, the Honda Civic is truly a popular choice among Filipino car buyers. Recently, Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI) proved yet again why their beloved sedan deserves to stay in the PH auto industry with the rebirth of the much-awaited all-new Honda Civic.
Now in its 10th generation, the 2016 Honda Civic is pointing in a brand new direction. Its new sheet metal body sets the Civic aesthetic a notch higher. Compared to its predecessors, the new Civic 2016 has a more aggressive style inspired by the “Revolutionary Silhouette Advanced Neo Sedan” exterior design concept.
The real game-changer is its body. Honda engineers put a lot of effort into combining sports and functionality that will certainly get the nod of approval from today’s practical yet discerning buyers. Its unique sporty look comes from the new front fenders with sleeker and sharply defined body lines that give the car a coupe-like stance. Honda generously peppers its top-of-the-line RS Turbo variant with classy features that include 17-inch alloy wheels, gloss black front grille, chrome door handles, wing type trunk spoiler, LED fog lights and RS emblem.
Honda came out with 2 options for the Civic’s engine—the 1.8-liter and the 1.5-liter RS Turbo variant. Both engines are mated to a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) developed under Earth Dreams technology. The RS Turbo is also equipped with paddle shifters for a sportier driving performance.
Interior-wise, the new Civic boasts a dynamic and wide cockpit design integrated with high class soft-touch materials. The RS Turbo Variant gets leather seats, steering wheel, and shift knob. The new Civic now offers more leg and knee room, thanks to the wide and spacious front row. Honda loaded the car with a TFT Instrument Cluster which includes Multi-Information Display that allows for quick browsing of vehicle speed and information. The audio and entertainment department is equipped with a new 7-inch advanced display audio that provides advanced touch controls, entertainment features and Smartphone connectivity.
The new Civic adds Smart functionalities such as Remote Engine Start Function that conveniently start the vehicle engine and turn on its Auto Climate Control System from the outside, which allows the cabin to cool even before entering the vehicle. The Smart Key Entry System also consists of a Walk-away Auto Lock Feature, which is an auto lock function that automatically bolts all doors after sensing that the Smart Key has moved away from the vehicle by approximately 2.5 meters.
As always, Honda put a lot of effort into ensuring passenger protection. Part of the car’s safety features include driver and passenger SRS airbags (with side and side curtain airbags for the RS Turbo), Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), Hill Start Assist (HSA), Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), Emergency Stop Signal (ESS), Multi-view Reverse Camera with Dynamic Guidelines, Seat Belt Reminder, ISOFIX and Immobilizer.
The all-new Honda Civic is priced at P1.088 million (for the 1.8-liter variant) and P1.398 million (for the RS Turbo variant). Honda will start to deliver their units by June.
