Honda’s American arm confirmed in a recent press release that the upcoming 2022 Honda Monkey will get a torquey new engine with a fifth gear. The 2022 Monkey will share the same power plant as the all-new 2022 Grom.

"While the Monkey has been a hit in the US since we reintroduced it for the 2019 model year, customers have expressed a desire for more comfortable cruising and better acceleration,” said American Honda Sports & Experiential Manager Brandon Wilson.

"Now we're happy to offer that capability by equipping the Monkey with the same five-speed engine that has earned rave reviews in the all-new 2022 Grom. It's yet another example of Honda producing not only the most diverse lineup of mini Moto models, but also the most capable," Wilson adds.

With the added fifth gear, the 2022 Monkey will feature more comfortable cruising, peppy acceleration from low speeds, and an increased top speed thanks to a new, modern engine with a wider spread of gear ratios and a 37-tooth final-drive sprocket (previously 34).

The 2022 Monkey will feature a 123.9cc air-cooled 80-degree single-cylinder four-stroke engine mated to a five-speed manual transmission. The single overhead cam two-valve mill will be paired with an electric starter and a full transistorized ignition system.

In terms of style, the 2022 Monkey will boast chrome steel high-mount front and rear fenders with stamped exhaust shield, circular mirrors, and a high-rise handlebar.

At the center sits a 1.5-gallon fuel tank, finished in the same paint color as the frame, swingarm, and shocks. The gas tank is finished with a 3-D Old Wing design Honda logo.

The 2022 Honda Monkey also comes with a digital full-LCD circular meter with speedometer, odometer (with two trip meters), and a six-segment fuel-level indicator.

Honda says that the 2022 Monkey will come in two colors (Pearl Black and Banana Yellow) and will have a sticker price of US$4,199.

At the same time, Honda also announced that the Fury, Shadow Aero and Shadow Phantom, plus the CB300R naked bike, will return to the US market as a 2020 year model.

Honda confirms that the Shadow Aero and Shadow Phantom will be priced at US$7,799 and US$7,899 respectively while the CB300R ABS will have a price tag of US$4,949.
