Honda released the details of the upcoming 2023 HR-V for the US market, including the number of variants, their respective prices, and the distinct design detail found on each grade.
According to the US arm of the Japanese carmaker, the 2023 Honda HR--V will be sold in America in six variants: LX (FWD), LX (AWD), Sport (FWD), Sport (AWD), EX-L (FWD), and EX-L (AWD).
In terms of design, the LX variants will sport a matte honeycomb-style grille. Similarly, the lower section of the LX’s front and rear bumpers will be finished in matte. It will ride on large 17-inch alloy silver-painted wheels.
The Sport variants will be donning an even more aggressive horizontal-themed grille mesh, a gloss-black rear spoiler, and a chrome exhaust finisher. Its lower portion is finished in gunmetal metallic while its exclusive 18-inch split five-spoke wheels are finished in gloss Berlina Black.
For the range-topping EX-L variant, would-be owners can expect it to wear a unique gloss-black version of the honeycomb grille, gloss black door pillars, and gloss black trim on the front and rear bumpers which gives the EX-L grade a more upscale look. It will have 17-inch alloy wheels, painted Shark Gray with an exclusive machined finish.
Inside, all HR-V variants are equipped with a seven-inch color LCD instrument display and an all-digital speedometer and tachometer. The instrument display features user-selectable functions such as Honda Sensing settings and vehicle information.
Infotainment-wise, both the LX and Sport variants get a seven-inch touchscreen system with physical knobs for audio volume and station tuning, buttons along the bottom for switching modes, and a simplified menu structure.
The upmarket EX-L variant, on the other hand, boasts a large nine-inch color touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, plus a Qi-compatible wireless charging pad and an upgraded audio system with eight speakers. It has a physical volume knob, large, easy-to-recognize icons, and a simplified navigation structure with fewer embedded menus.
All models share the same 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine mated to a standard continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). The CVT has been reengineered for improved power delivery, refinement, and engine sound and also features a more natural responsive feel thanks to improved G-Design programming and the addition of Honda's 'Step-Shift' programming, which according to the carmaker, simulates gear changes when accelerating at full throttle.
“The new Honda HR-V is just the right size for young, active buyers looking for a sporty driving experience, and plenty of space and utility for an adventurous weekend escape. This new HR-V will welcome a new generation of customers to Honda, and we look to grow its position as the segment leader with young buyers, first-time buyers, and multicultural customers,” said American Honda Motor Co., Inc. Honda National Sales Assistant Vice President Michael Kistemaker.
The 2023 Honda HR-V LX (FWD) is priced at US$23,650 while its AWD version will sell for US$25,150. The Sport (FWD) variant comes with a sticker price of US$25,650 while the Sport (AWD) has a price tag of US$27,150. Lastly, the EX-L (FWD) will retail for US$27,450 while its all-wheel-drive counterpart will cost US$28,950. These figures, said Honda, does not include the destination charge of US$1,245.
