How Does Rain Affect Your Car's Paint Finish?
Have you noticed your lustrous car exterior going dull after enduring a heavy bout of rain? Though it may seem like it's only H20 falling on your car's surface, it's actually more than that. Rainwater by itself isn't inherently damaging to your vehicle, though elements and substances left on the car after the water has evaporated can be problematic. Dust, dirt, minerals--all of these can cause your paint finish to lose its shine over time.
To help protect your car exterior for the rainy season, here's what you need to do:
- It’s always a good idea to have your car completely washed and polished just before it rains. Washing gets rid of the dirt that's already there, and a good coat of polishing wax can protect the painted surfaces from moisture.
- Make sure to polish your car once a month to protect the finish. It can also help to wash your car after few days of heavy rain.
- Never use household cleaning items to wash the car, as they can be too abrasive. Use your manufacturer's recommended car shampoo instead.
- If you live near the sea or in a coastal area, consider having your underbody sprayed with rust protection.
- Lubricate door locks, windshield wipers, and other moving parts exposed to rain with an anti-rust lubricant spray like WD40 to prevent oxidation and corrosion.
Hopefully, you won't have to contend with rain-related car damage. Make sure to follow the tips outlined here so you won't have to.
