How to Apply Car Decals Correctly
Decals are a great way to personalize your car. They provide a dash of color, detail, and authenticity to help your vehicle stand out, which is especially helpful if you own a rather common ride. They also make your car easier to find in a crowded parking lot. That said, the process of installing car decals or stickers is not that complicated. Just make sure to follow these five application steps to make the job easier.
Step 1: Clean the Surface
Make sure to first clean the area where you want to apply the decal with soap and water. Don’t use strong chemicals such as glass cleaners, as these could leave residue behind, or worse, damage the paint surface.
Step 2: Remove the backing off the decal
With the decal on hand, carefully peel the backing off at one corner, keeping in mind not to let the sticky back touch anything that could leave dirt. Don't remove the backing fully.
Step 3: Place the decal in position
Apply the exposed part of the decal onto the surface, then press it firmly with a squeegee while slowly pulling off the rest of the backing until you have fully applied the decal.
Step 4: Remove the clear transfer layer
Slowly peel off the clear transfer layer at an angle. Be careful not to take any of the decal with you.
Step 5: Remove bubbles
If you see any bubbles, try to squeegee the air out through the side of the decal. If that doesn't work, puncture the bubble with a needle or blade, then squeegee the air out through the hole.
