Hyundai Accent hailed as best small car in 2022 JD Power IQS 

Hyundai announced that its subcompact sedan Accent was awarded as the best small car in the J.D. Power 2022 United States (US) Initial Quality Study (IQS).

The Korean automotive marque’s arm in the US said in a statement that it is the second consecutive year that the nameplate received the same recognition.

Hyundai Motor America Quality and Service Engineering Executive Director Omar Rivera noted that getting back-to-back wins in the aforementioned study have always been difficult to accomplish. “We are relentless in our pursuit to constantly improve customer satisfaction and the quality of our vehicles. Accent is a symbol of our commitment to achieving those goals,” he said.

Rivera and Hyundai Motor North America Chief Customer Officer Barry Ratzlaff received the best small car trophy for the Hyundai Accent from J.D. Power Global Automotive Senior Vice President Ron Koch and Senior Director Robert Mansfield.

Hyundai Motor America shared that the newest J.D. Power US IQS — now in its 36th year — is based on the responses from 84,165 purchasers and lessees of new 2022 model-year vehicles who were surveyed early in the ownership period.

The initial quality is measured by the number of problems experienced per 100 vehicles (PP100) during the first 90 days of ownership, with a lower score reflecting higher quality. 

Conducted from February to May 2022, the study is based on a 223-question divided into nine vehicle categories (infotainment; features, controls and displays; exterior; driving assistance; interior; powertrain; seats; driving experience; and climate).
