The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is part of the 2022-2023 Japan Car of the Year (JCOTY) Best Cars selection.
In a statement, Hyundai Motor Company (HMC) shared that the fully electric crossover was among the 11 models that surpassed 37 other candidates that will compete to be crowned as the overall winner of the coveted recognition next month.
Previously, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 has earned various accolades, around the globe such as the World Car of the Year, World Electric Vehicle of the Year, World Car Design of the Year, German Car of the Year, World Car of the Year, among others. The model also took the top prize at the inaugural Best Cars of the Year 2021/2022 Awards.
Aside from the Hyundai Ioniq 5, the latest shortlist for the Best Cars of 2022-2023 Japan Car of the Year comprised of the Suzuki Alto, Nissan’s X-Trail and Fairlady Z, Mazda CX-60 e-SKYACTIV D, Renault Arkana, Toyota Crown, Nissan Sakura/Mitsubishi eK Cross EV, Honda Civic e:HEV/Civic Type R, BMW iX, as well as the Land Rover’s Range Rover.
Debuted in February 2021, the introduction of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 marked as the brand’s premier battery electric vehicle (BEV). It is built on the company’s Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), the vehicle also offers ultra-fast charging, ultra-fast charging, a vehicle-to-Load (V2L) function, as well as other advanced connectivity and various driver assistance features that enhance the in-car experience for all.
Further, Hyundai Motor Philippines (HMPH) previewed the Ioniq 5 at the 8th Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS) and the recently-concluded 10th Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit (PEVS). The model’s arrival on local shores will begin by January next year.
