What cars were featured at Netflix's Seoul Vibe film?
Seoul Vibe features Hyundai cars like the first-generation Grandeur (Azera), the Pony Pickup, and the Porter light truck, among others. What location did Hyundai provide Seoul Vibe to shoot scenes of the movie?
Hyundai allowed the Seoul Vibe cast to shoot at its Wonhyoro Service Center.“Through close collaboration with Netflix from the early stages of production, we endeavored to provide a unique atmosphere for our historic vehicles and locations with a newtro (new+retro) vibe that will appeal to every generation, including Millennial and Gen Z audiences. We will continue to explore exhilarating opportunities for our customers to experience and engage with our brand through various partnerships and innovative content,” commented Hyundai Motor Company Executive Vice President (EVP), Global Chief Marketing Officer, and Head of Customer Experience Division Thomas Schemera.
Seoul Vibe is set during the 1988 Seoul Olympics. Here, viewers can see the said period’s automobiles that give the movie an authentic ‘80s vibe. These include the first-generation Hyundai Grandeur (Azera), the Hyundai Pony Pickup, the Hyundai Porter light truck, and old sedans, such as the second-generation Hyundai Sonata, Hyundai Stellar, and the Hyundai Cortina.
Alongside the iconic roster of cars is a host of a star-studded Korean cast that includes Ah-in Yoo, Kyung-pyo Go, Kyoo-hyung Lee, Ju-hyun Park, Seong-wu Ong, and Jung-se Oh is leading the dynamic flow of the story.
In addition to providing the film with Hyundai cars, the automotive firm also provided Seoul Vibe with a shooting location at Hyundai Wonhyoro Service Center.
The fast-paced film, for those who have not yet seen it, is about a ragtag team of drivers and mechanics that went undercover to dismantle a massive money-laundering ring that could jeopardize the 1988 Seoul Olympics.
Things to look out for are breath-taking driving scenes with Hyundai’s retro models including a modified Pony Pickup with the engine from Grandeur (Azera), used by the movie’s cast.
A white-colored first-generation Grandeur is also featured in the movie, symbolizing its pioneering status as Korea’s flagship premium model. These two retro models, which gained huge popularity back in the 1980s, combine the beauty of retro and new, and act as a bridge between generations.
Seoul Vibe also made news in the Philippines prior to its local release. The Philippine arm of the streaming titan staged the “Seoul Vibe gas station” in Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) where fuel pumps were P7 per liter — the price of gasoline in the country back in 1988.
