Hyundai Staria Premium MPV makes Malaysian debut
It’s official: Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors (HSDM), the Malaysian distributor of Hyundai vehicles, has finally launched the Staria Premium Multi-Purpose Vehicle (MPV).
According to Hyundai, the Staria Premium is the brand’s first luxurious MPV and is the South Korean carmaker’s response to changing consumer needs. The Malaysian debut of the Hyundai Staria Premium also aligns with Hyundai’s vision for the future of mobility and its transformation into a Smart Mobility Solution provider.
“Hyundai is expanding its offerings to include more premium vehicles that offer innovative features for a unique in-car experience. The Staria Premium spearheads Hyundai’s evolution in mobility and we are proud to be part of it. There are more innovative products in the pipeline that HSDM customers can look forward to,” said HSDM Managing Director of Retail and Distribution Jeffrey Gan.
At the front end of the Staria Premium are horizontal daytime running lights (DRLs) and a positioning lamp that runs across the width of the MPV’s front fascia. The wide radiator grille is flanked by a pair of low-set headlamps.
The company’s emblem is finished with tinted brass chrome as well as grille, headlamp bezels, front and rear bumpers, wheels, side mirrors, and door handles.
The side profile of the MPV is highlighted by panoramic side windows with lowered beltlines that evoke a sense of spaciousness, which Hyundai says, is inspired by traditional Korean hanok architecture.
Its rear echoes the exterior design with eye-catching vertical tail lamps as well as a wide rear window. The rear combination lamps are applied with Hyundai’s unique Parametric Pixel design and lamp-shape garnish on top.
“The Staria is revolutionary. Hyundai has once again demonstrated its outstanding design and architecture capabilities with the introduction of the MPV extraordinaire. Its variant-exclusive finishes give the Staria Premium a more luxurious look and feel than the Grand Starex. In terms of where the Staria Premium sits in the segment, it’s a notch higher than the Grand Starex. It’s Hyundai’s first luxurious MPV that is at par with premium Japanese MPV models,” commented HSDM Managing Director Low Yuan Lung.
Inside, customers can find first-row seats designed to offer a feeling of space and comfort. Meanwhile, the second-row premium Relaxation Seats recline electronically with sliding capabilities.
The Staria Premium MPV will also have an advanced 10.25-inch front display screen, touch-based center fascia, and a button-type electronic shift lever. It will also feature a 64-color ambient mood lamp and a Bose sound system.
Power will come from a diesel-powered 2.2-liter CRDi engine mated to an eight-speed automatic tranny.
Safety-wise, the Malaysian-spec Staria Premium packs a host of features such as Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA), Driver Attention Warning (DAW) with Leading Vehicle Departure Alert (LVDA), Parking Distance Warning (PDW), Surround View Monitor (SVM), Rear Occupant Alert (ROA), Safe Exit Warning (SEW) and High Beam Assist (HBA).
The Staria Premium retails for RM358,888 (around P4,392,669) with a two-year/50,000-km warranty, for RM368,888 (around P4,515,066) with a five-yea/300,000-km warranty, and a three-year/50,000-km free maintenance service.
