Isuzu Philippines Corporation (IPC) has shared four reasons why the D-Max pickup truck and the mu-X sport utility vehicle (SUV) are considered ideal rides during the rainy season.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What is the ground clearance of the Isuzu D-Max?

The Isuzu D-Max has a ground clearance of 240 mm.
  • What is the water wading capacity of the Isuzu mu-X?

The Isuzu mu-X has an 80 mm water wading capacity.
  • As many motorists know, constant wet weather presents various challenges for car owners. And IPC’s two offerings could answer the needs of those in the market for a reliable and dependable vehicle, especially for braving the flooded areas of the metro.

“Both these models have a storied history of excellence on the road,” IPC said in a press statement.

“The D-Max, introduced in 2003, has become a symbol of rugged dependability and innovation. Over the years, it has evolved to meet the demands of both urban and off-road driving, consistently proving its mettle in various conditions. Similarly, the mu-X, launched in 2014, has quickly gained a reputation for its robust performance and comfort, making it a favorite among SUV enthusiasts,” it added.

    High ground clearance

The Isuzu D-Max boasts a 240-millimeter (mm) ground clearance, ideal for going over potholes or slightly submerged thoroughfares. On the other hand, the mu-X clears the ground by 235 mm, proving that it is a capable hauler whether carrying passengers or goods.

While it is always advisable to avoid driving through floodwaters when possible, the local wing of the Japanese carmaker noted that it is reassuring to know that the said vehicles are built to handle such situations effectively.

    Water wading capability

Complementing their aforementioned ground clearance is an impressive water wading capability, which allows both truck and SUV to wallow over water up to 800 mm.

The said water wading height — IPC pointed out — ensures the engine and electrical components remain secure from water damage. When the need to conquer flooded roads arises, IPC advises maintaining a slow and steady pace.

    Flood-proof intake

The 2024 Isuzu D-Max is fitted with a redesigned air intake.

By strategically placing the air intake at the top-front edge of the engine hood, aligned with all breather lines, and secured with rubber trim, Isuzu ensures that its the D-Max will get additional protection from water ingress.

Off-road enthusiasts who plan to convert their trucks into off-road rigs will be happy to know that the truck is built with ample space on the left side of the engine bay to accommodate a snorkel — further enhancing the vehicle's flood-proof capabilities.

    Semi-midship engine design

The Isuzu D-Max is built with a semi-midship seated engine. The said design balances the pickup truck’s weight distribution and repositions the alternator inward, making it more difficult for water to reach.

IPC explained that it is important to keep the alternator dry as water exposure can significantly affect the electrical system, leading to potential malfunctions and costly repairs.

“While the Isuzu D-Max and mu-X are equipped to handle flooded conditions, drivers should always practice precaution. Flooded roads can conceal debris and sharp objects that may damage the vehicle. It is crucial to remain vigilant and avoid unnecessary risks,” IPC reminded its customers.

“In the event that your vehicle does get flooded, Isuzu Philippines is here to help. Customers are encouraged to contact their nearest Isuzu dealership to book an appointment for inspection and service,” the company advised.
