Leading Japanese truckmaker Isuzu Philippines Corporation (IPC) has recently turned over five new Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP)-compliant units to a transport cooperative in Dagupan.
The keys to five Isuzu QKR units (which will soon ply the roads of Bayambang-Dagupan via Malasiqui) were officially handed over to the New Bayambang UV Express Transport Corporation.
The turnover ceremony was attended by IPC President Hajime Koso, Pangasinan Governor Amado Espino, Bayambang Mayor Cezar Quiambao, and Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) Regional Director Nasrudin Talipasan.
The program marked Isuzu's resumption of turnovers of modernized PUVs to numerous transport groups and cooperatives across the archipelago.
In his speech, Koso noted the long-standing partnership between Filipinos and the Isuzu brand.
“It cannot be denied that Isuzu has created a reliable partnership between Filipino drivers and transport cooperatives over the years. Isuzu has not only achieved its 300,000th sales milestone in 2020, but also continued its legacy of having these Isuzu PUVs run the public roads under the government’s PUV modernization program,” he said.
“Isuzu PUVs are truly made by Filipinos for Filipinos, ‘Gawang Pilipino, Para sa Pilipino’. We hope that these units will be able to provide its usual durability, comfort, and safety for your drivers and passengers. Together we will overcome the challenges of this pandemic and look towards a brighter future for everyone,” Koso added.
The recently-delivered modernized PUVs are using the Isuzu QKR77 platform with PUV body designed and manufactured by Almazora Motors Corporation. This is powered by the Euro IV-compliant 4JH1-TC diesel engine.
Earlier this year, IPC delivered 30 brand new modernized public utility vehicles (PUVs) to the Pangkalahatang Sanggunian Manila & Suburbs Drivers Association (Pasang-Masda), one of the country’s biggest transport groups. The said event was the third batch of modern PUVS that IPC rolled out that Pasang Masda acquired.
