Following the teasers posted over its social media page since last month, Isuzu Philippines Corporation (IPC) has officially introduced the all-new mu-X to the local market.
The second-generation mu-X (designed to be more stylish while “retaining the brand’s heritage” in terms of power and reliability) was presented to the Philippine market after the outgoing version's seven years of presence in the country.
The latest seven-seater sports utility vehicle offering was unveiled following the brand’s launch of the all-new Isuzu D-Max last March.
IPC President Hajime Koso expressed excitement over the grand reveal of the newest model that would go against the likes of the Toyota Fortuner, the Mitsubishi Montero Sport and the Nissan Terra (which recently had an update).
“With the introduction of the new Isuzu D-Max early this year, much anticipation and excitement has been created for the mu-X, which has become one of the leading SUVs in the market due to its versatility, durability, and over-all reliability… Finally, the long wait is over. Get ready to be impressed and moved with a mu-X that will give you confidence and pleasure to drive. A mu-X that we’ve never seen before, one that will definitely push you further to ‘Take the Lead,’” Koso noted.
The updated look of the all-new Isuzu mu-X is more evident as expressed in the new-world cross front grille design (the same design seen on its pickup truck stablemate) as well as the refreshed rear design with a bolder tailgate badging.
On the inside, the all-new mu-X greets its occupants with a leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear selector. The door trims, together with the door armrests, are made up of plush materials and have been reshaped to maximize passenger comfort. Aside from that, the newest model offering can hold 12 bottles.
At the driver's side of the all-new Isuzu mu-X are the crystal-like gauges on the instrument panel and a telescopic-adjustable steering wheel that has been reduced in diameter (from to 375mm from 382mm).
Further, the all-new Isuzu mu-X wears a 10.1-inch full touchscreen display that boasts compatibility for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto users. This is mated to an eight-speaker system with JVC Kenwood tweeters found on the rear doors.
Power outlets are now fitted on the lower dash up front and at the center console with a dedicated rear 220V and dual 2.4A USB charging ports.
The all-new Isuzu mu-X adjusted its B-pillars forward by 25mm while the C-pillars are now narrower, and its rear quarter bottom glass edge lowered. The third-row seats have wider new designs, increased seat cushions and width, larger headrests with higher height adjust levels while still allowing child seat mounting.
Smart features that are also fitted in the all-new D-Max have been carried over to the latest mu-X. These include the Passive Entry and Start System (PESS) with Welcome Light, and a Walk Away Lock system that automatically locks the vehicle once the driver brings the key and goes beyond three meters.
Powering the all-new Isuzu mu-X is either the new 4JJ3-TCX turbo engine (which can provide 187hp and 450Nm) or the more fuel-efficient powertrain RZ4E-TC.
The all-new Isuzu mu-X is 10mm taller and 25mm longer compared to the first-generation model (now 1,822mm tall and 2,855mm long) and has 800mm wading depth capability.
Its safety features is bannered by the Isuzu’s Advance Driver Assist System, which was first seen at the recently-introduced D-Max. These ADAS functions are:
Further, the all-new Isuzu D-Max is offered with a three-year warranty (or 100,000-kilometers, whichever comes first).
Offered in five colors, Onyx Black, Mercury Silver, Splash White and the new hues namely Marrakesh Brown and Satin White Pearl, the all-new Isuzu mu-X is available in the five variants and their respective prices are stated below:
