Continuously driving the strong growth is the commercial vehicle (CV) segment, which sold 75,321 units in the initial four months of 2022. Now holding 75.39-percent share of the industry, the CV category is now 24 percent higher when compared to the 60,730 units that were turned over to clients in January-April 2021.

In April 2022 alone, the two groups were able to sell 25,149 units overall, which is 15.3 percent lower compared to the previous month’s 29,685-unit sales rally but a whopping 40.9-percent jump from April 2021’s 17,843-unit performance.

According to CAMPI President Atty. Rommel Gutierrez, the April sales performance “reflects the continued containment of the pandemic underpinned by the improved consumer demand for big-ticket items compared with last year.”

“This has enabled the industry to achieve a double-digit growth of nearly 41 percent, albeit lower by 15.3 percent on a month-on-month basis”, Gutierrez said.

“The government’s economic growth target of seven to nine percent this year, driven by the overall improvement in employment and domestic demand will play a critical role in the economy and the industry’s recovery alike”, he added.

The top five automotive distributors for January to April 2022 for CAMPI-TMA are Toyota Motor Philippines (50,945 units sold); Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (13,270); Nissan Philippines, Inc. (7,586); Suzuki Philippines, Inc. (6,294); and Ford Motor Philippines, Inc. (6,205).
