Japanese Toymaker Tamiya Releases Special Edition, Jeepney-Inspired Model Kit
The iconic jeepney might be endangered these days, but car collectors can immortalize it with Tamiya's limited-edition, jeepney race car model named "Dyipne". Patterned after the iconic Philippine jeepney, this mini 4WD kit is the first-ever Jeepney immortalized as a toy car kit.
Japanese toymaker Tamiya has partnered with Brickyard to bring the Dyipne to Philippines shores. It will be mass-produced in Tamiya's factory in Cebu.
"It is really exciting to finally have a kit that is truly and uniquely a Philippine cultural icon. It really goes to show that Tamiya recognizes the Philippines as one of its most important partners," said Ferdie Kahn, Brickyard owner and distributor of the Dyipne kit in the Philippines.
"No Glue Needed"
According to WheninManila, the Dyipne is in the 1/32 Scale Mini 4WD Rev Series. It will use a type 130 motor, and needs two AA batteries to run. The entire model can be snapped together, and glue won't be needed to hold them in place. Stickers are included to help you customize your Dyipne, depending on your preferences.
The jeepney model is priced at PHP700. It's set to be released in the Philippines today, June 6, 2019, and will be sold globally a few months later.
Tamiya Mini 4WD Asia Challenge
There will be a Tamiya Mini 4WD Asia Challenge on June 20 until June 23. Sponsored by Brickyard, around 250 to 300 competitors from 10 countries will vie for the chance to compete at the Tamiya World Championships in Japan this November.
