Jeep celebrates 80th birthday, looks to build electric future
Stellantis-owned 4x4 brand Jeep just turned 80 this July. And to celebrate the milestone, the American automotive marque looks to build an electrified future and reinforce its commitment to the brand’s zero-emission vision.
"We’re celebrating our 80th anniversary by continuing to move upward and forward,” said Jeep CEO Christian Meunier.
Meunier adds, "We’re expanding our portfolio into new segments, with the three-row Jeep Grand Cherokee L, while setting a strong foothold in the premium SUV market, with our all-new Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer. Next in our exciting global product pipeline is the introduction of the all-new Jeep Grand Cherokee, which will be equipped, for the first time, with plug-in-hybrid 4xe technology. We are fully committed towards a vision of an electrified future.”
Jeep also released an 80th-anniversary video showcasing the unique nature of the brand’s journey to electrification and a glimpse of what Jeep’s offering could look like in the near future. You can check it out here.
With the growing demand for electric vehicles, Jeep looks to adopt this technology and add more innovative features including those shown in the video like biometric recognition, peer-to-peer charging, drone pairing, autonomous off-road driving, remote vehicle tracking, flat-seat stargazing, and more.
“We are committed to make Jeep the greenest and most exciting SUV brand. The electrification of the Jeep lineup will allow commuters to travel solely on electric power, delivering an efficient and fun on-road experience and offering an ability to enjoy even more off-road capability in nearly complete silence,” said Meunier.
