Months after being teased to the public, Kia Philippines announced that the official introduction of the much-awaited EV6 is set next month.
According to the Ayala-backed automotive distributor, its initial entry in the local electric vehicle arena shall be launched on March 21.
Although not much information has been shared, here are some bits of information that Carmudi Philippines gathered following the vehicle's impending arrival in the local automotive scene.
When the Kia EV6 had its global debut in March 2021, global marque shared that the vehicle was created under its new design philosophy "Opposites United" — taking cues from the contrasts found in nature and humanity.
The Kia EV6’ new visual identity earned the brand notable accolades such as the 2022 iF Design Award as well as 2022 Red Dot Award.
It also sits on the brand’s Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) that guarantees spaciousness, complementing the 2,900-millimeter wheelbase.
Back at the 8th Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS), Kia Philippines President Emmanuel Aligada said that the pricing for the EV6 shall be below the P4-million mark.
Back then, the company also revealed that the vehicle (specifically the EV6 GT-Line) will have a 77.4-kilowatthour high-voltage battery pack matched to an electric motor that provides nearly 226 horsepower and 350Nm of torque, allowing the vehicle to reach speeds of 100 kilometers per hour from standstill in 7.3 seconds.
The vehicle will also be in a rear-wheel-drive format.
Further, the Kia EV6 can reportedly cover more than 500 kilometers (based on the Environmental Protection Agency standards) when fully charged.
Earlier, the Kia EV6, earned a five-star rating from the European New Car Assessment Program (Euro NCAP). Its safety features include auto emergency braking technology; blind spot detection technology; rear cross-traffic collision-avoidance assist; lane keeping and following assist technology; smart cruise control with stop and go function; highway driving assist; safe exit assist; and 360-degree surround view camera.
During a roundtable meeting with the media, Kia Philippines Product Strategy and Planning Director Josh Altarejos shared that the vehicle can be charged in as fast as 50 minutes, depending on the type of charger to be used.
In terms of cost in energy, the Kia EV6 range is rated at 528km at 77KwH which is only P800 when charging at home — notably cheaper than the P2,400 fuel cost of a midsize sport utility vehicle covering a similar distance.
