KEY TAKEAWAYS
How many units did Kia Philippines sell in 2021?
The Ayala-backed automotive distributor delivered 3,748 vehicles to buyers in 2021.What are the top three models that spearheaded the sales performance?
These are the Kia Stonic, the Soluto, and the K2500.In a statement, the country’s distributor of Kia vehicles announced that it experienced a 76-percent increase after selling 3,748 vehicles in 2021.
To note, AC Motors enjoyed a 30-percent sales growth while the local automotive industry collectively had a 18-percent rise — both compared to the 2020 performance.
Kia Philippines attributed the sales surge to the Stonic, the Soluto, and the K2500.
First introduced in October 2020, the Kia Stonic enjoyed the warm appreciation of the country’s car buyers that it immediately became the company’s top-selling nameplate. Last year, the Stonic cornered 37 percent of the Korean automaker’s overall sales in the Philippines.
“Sleek, spacious, and of course, stylish, the Kia Stonic is an excellent choice for young adults who are in the market for a stylish vehicle. Its striking, stylish exterior accentuated by two-tone body colors and the iconic ‘Tiger Nose’ grille. Its flexible interior can accommodate up to 325 liters of cargo,” Kia Philippines shared in a statement.
The aforementioned vehicle is equipped with a 1.4-liter dual CVVT gasoline engine that can provide a maximum power output of 99 horses and torque of up to 132Nm.
Following the Stonic is the Kia Soluto, which held 21 percent of the company’s total sales in 2021.
The subcompact sedan is fitted with convenient technologies such as an audio system that is compatible with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and a multifunction steering wheel. The Kia Soluto’s EX trims are affixed with safety features like the rear parking distance warning and immobilizer.
Rounding the three best-selling nameplates for Kia Philippines last year is the K2500 as the commercial vehicle accounted for 17 percent of the total units rolled out to customers last year.
The 2.5-liter turbocharged engine matched to a six-speed manual transmission found in the utilitarian vehicle can carry the various body types that the Ayala-backed automotive distributor offers. Further, the K2500 is the only vehicle in the segment that has a 4x4 option, making it a very capable mobility partner.
Earlier, the company declared its move to officially follow the new corporate logo and brand identity. In line with the said move, the Kia Philippines said that it is slowly remodeling many of its showrooms to champion the company’s new store identity and uphold the philosophy of “Movement that Inspires.”
“Our teams are inspired by our refreshed vision to equip Filipinos with everything they need to move towards a brighter, bolder future,” Kia Philippines President Manny Aligada was quoted as saying. “We are confident that our purpose-driven vehicles, partnered with our efforts in improving our dealerships, customer care, and after-sales services, will accelerate Kia Philippines into the next phase of growth in 2022 and beyond.”
