Kia PH to unbox 4 models next year

Kia Philippines Motor Corporation (KPMC) will introduce at least four models by next year, company executives revealed.

The announcement was made by AC Motor Automobile Group President Antonio Zara III and KPMC Chief Operating Officer Brian Buendia at the launch of the spruced-up Seltos in the country.

According to Zara, the models that will be unveiled in the country include the electric sport utility vehicle EV5 — alongside two electrified vehicles and an internal-combustion-engine-propelled vehicle.

While revealing about its upcoming arrival, KPMC heads are still mum on the details of the Philippine-spec Kia EV5.

So while waiting for its official launch, here are the specifications of the Kia EV5 abroad that might also be found on the vehicle when it lands in the country.

Highlighted in Korea last month during the EV Day celebration, the electrified crossover is designed to meet the needs of “millennial families.”

Outside, the Kia EV5 showcases the “Opposites United” design philosophy and is built on the brand’s E-GMP platform.

For its cabin, the vehicle offers a lounge-like interior — looking very similar to the bigger electric SUV, the Kia EV9.

Manufactured in China and Korea, the Kia EV5 is offered in the three variants: long–range, and long–range all-wheel-drive (AWD).

The standard model is equipped with a 64-kilowatt-hour (kWh) battery pack and a 160-kilowatt (kW) motor expected to deliver a driving range of 530 kilometers (km) — based on the China Light Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC) standards.

On the other hand, the Kia EV5’s long-range trim is outfitted with an 88kWh battery pack and the same mill, allowing the fully-charged vehicle to cover 720 kilometers.

Finally, the AWD variant has a battery pack similar to the long-range option but is propelled by a pair of two electric mills (a front–wheel 160kW motor and a rear–wheel 70kW mill). The top-tier offering reaches a range of 650 km based on CLTC standards.

The EV5 battery, Kia stated, features an advanced heat pump system (similar to what is found on the EV6) that guarantees performance despite external conditions. Helping the vehicle gather more juice is its regenerative braking system.

In addition, it has an i-Pedal that lets drivers speed up or slow down using only a single pedal.

Further, the cabin of the upcoming Kia EV5 might have a 12.3–inch cluster combined with a 12.3–inch infotainment system and a five–inch climate control display.

Physical buttons, the company shared, are kept to a minimum in the Kia EV5 as it only has four hidden hard keys that are utilized in the vehicle’s start/stop function, audio-video, navigation, telematics, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) control.

The Kia EV5 also has a three-zone climate control system and an after–blow feature that reduces odors inside the cabin.

Moreover, the Kia EV5’s seats might be made up of eco–friendly recycled PET fabric and Bio–PU leather.

As of the moment, all the abovementioned details are still speculations with regards to the arriving Kia EV5 and we all need to wait for Kia Philippines’ official announcement pertaining to its specifications (as well as pricing.

While that is the case, the Kia EV5 that will be retailed in the Philippine market will likely breach the P4-million since the already-available EV6 (offered in GT-Line) is being offered for P3.788 million.
