Kia America has released a teaser image of its Rebelle Rally rig. It is set to compete in the navigational rally in October and is based on one of the brand’s longest-running nameplates — the Kia Sportage.
According to the United States arm of the South Korean automotive brand, the 2022 Rebelle Rally rig is built from the X-Pro trim of the 2023 Kia Sportage. Noticeable from the photo is the vehicle’s livery which bears the company’s new gray, white, and black color scheme as well as its new slogan “Movement that Inspires.”
We also spotted front skid plates, a red tow hook, and additional support placed on top of the rig’s roof rack.
The Kia Sportage X-Pro is already off-road-ready out of the box. Standard features offered by the 2023 Kia Sportage X-Pro include all-terrain tires, off-road hardware, and active on-demand all-wheel drive. It also boasts a beefy 2.5-liter engine mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission that provides as much as 187 horsepower (hp).
However, it will still undergo “minimal modifications” to take on the rally’s punishing terrain, Kia said.
The modifications — which are yet to be revealed — could come in the form of lighter seats, reduced interior amenities, and probably some features that would make the two-woman team (and the actual rig) last the eight-day-long rally event.
The finished Rebelle Rally rig will make its official debut in the coming weeks ahead of the Rebelle Rally, which will kicks off on October 6. It will compete in the Rebelle Rally X-Pro class.
