Kia’s global sales up by 8.3% in Apr. 2023

Kia shared that its foreign automotive sales totaled 209,945 units in April 2023.According to the Hyundai-owned automotive brand, it sold a total of 259,524 units worldwide last month compared to the 239,539 automobiles delivered by the carmaker in April of the previous year.
When broken down, the number reflects a 1.8 percent decrease in terms of domestic sales with a total automotive sales of 49,086 units year-on-year. The leading nameplate, sales-wise, was the Kia Sorento sport utility vehicle (SUV) with 6,835 units sold. It was followed by the Carnival multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) with total sales of 6,481 units and the Sportage SUV with 6,282 units sold.
Outside of Korea, Kia sold 209,945 units, which translates to a 10.9 percent increase compared to the company’s automotive sales in April 2022. In markets outside of the republic, the best-selling model was the Sportage SUV, which raked up a total sales figure of 37,363 units. The Seltos SUV and K3 (sold as the Forte in major markets) trailed behind with 22,182 and 15,156 units sold respectively.
The remaining 493 units — Kia pointed out — were sales of its special purpose vehicles. Compared to the 241 units of special purpose models sold by the brand in April 2022, this year’s special vehicle sales revealed a 104.6 percent increase in the said category.
In the future, Kia said that it will focus on electrification with plans to accelerate the company’s efforts in building electric vehicles (EV) and its transition into a sustainable mobility solutions provider by introducing innovative mobility products and services.
To date, Kia’s global electrified and EV lineup includes models like the hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants of the Niro, Sportage, and Sorento as well as the Niro EV and the EV6. Kia will soon be launching the EV9 in global markets.
