KEY TAKEAWAYS
Who is the new distributor of KTM and Husqvarna motorcycles in the Philippines?
KTM AG’s new arm for the local market is Lucky MAPI.When did the pre-termination of Importer Agreements between KTM AG and ACPI become effective?
ACPI stopped its operations as the distributor for the two brands on September 30, 2024.In a statement posted over their respective Facebook pages, the Ayala-led firm ceased the marketing, sales, after-sales services, and other operational activities for the two Austrian-headquartered brands as of September 30.
Per the statement seen online, the ACPI and KTM AG mutually “agreed to pre-terminate the Importer Agreements.”
Following this, the brands’ distributorships have been turned over to Lucky MAPI. They will be the sister brands’ distributors for the local market.
It can be recalled that KTM AG awarded the distributorship level status to ACPI in 2016. It subsequently led to the putting up of a manufacturing facility at Laguna Technopark in Sta. Rosa, Laguna.
The said establishment – which was the product of the joint-venture partnership between ACPI and KTM AG (KTM Asia Motorcycle Manufacturing, Incorporated) – had an initial target of making 10,000 motorcycles annually (varying from the Duke 200 and 390 as well as the RC 200 and 390 models). Eventually, it was able to supply the brands’ demand in other neighboring countries.
Meanwhile, the newly-hailed distributor Lucky MAPI is under Motor Ace Philippines – a known multi-brand motorcycle dealer, which apart from KTM, also carries under marques such as Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, TVS, and Yamaha.
