Last year, Lamborghini announced that it is pulling the plug on the Aventador. This time, the automotive firm confirmed that the Swiss market-bound Aventador LP 780-4 Ultimae Roadster (finished in a special light blue Ad Personam color) will be the last naturally-aspirated V12-powered Aventador to roll out from its factory in Italy.

The Aventador was first introduced at the Geneva Motor Show in 2011. Lamborghini said that its moniker — the Aventador LP 700-4 — hints at its power output and drivetrain. At its heart is the Lamborghini V12 60-degree power mill that can produce 700 horsepower (hp). It was also equipped with a permanent four-wheel drivetrain system.

“The Aventador is a jump of two generations in terms of design and technology, with an exceptional package of unique, innovative technologies and performance that is simply overwhelming,” said Automobili Lamborghini Chief Executive (CEO) and Chairman Stephan Winkelmann.

Following the Aventador LP 700-4’s debut, Lamborghini released a roadster version of the sportscar the year after. With its lightweight carbon fiber panels removed and stored in the front bonnet, the roadster delivered open-air driving exhilaration.

In 2015, Lamborghini followed through with the Aventador LP 750-4 SuperVeloce. It had new aerodynamic appointments, including a fixed carbon fiber wing, which shaved 50 kilograms (kg) off its overall weight. With an additional boost of 50 horses, the SuperVeloce model achieved a zero to 100 kilometers per hour (kph) time record of 2.8 seconds.

The Aventador LP 750-4 SuperVeloce also took on the famous Nürburgring Nordschleife. With Pirelli test driver Marco Mapelli behind the wheel, it completed The Green Hell’s North Loop in under seven minutes.

Lamborghini announced the Aventador S in 2016 followed by its official unveiling in 2017. The suffix means that this Aventador had a few special enhancements — just like other Lambos with the S badge.

That said, the Aventador S had fancy upgrades like the Lamborghini Dinamica Veicolo Attiva (LDVA), MagneRide suspension, four-wheel steering, and an additional customizable drive mode: EGO. Thanks to Mitja Borkert, Lamborghini’s Head of Design, the Aventador S donned new aerodynamic modifications that made it 50 percent more efficient and gave it 130 percent more downforce. The mill produced 740hp and offered an increase in torque at 690Nm.

An Aventador S Roadster was unveiled at Frankfurt Motor Show in 2017.

The Lamborghini Aventador SVJ was presented at the Monterey Car Week in 2018. Like the Aventador LP 750-4 SuperVeloce, the Aventador SVJ also conquered the Nürburgring Nordschleife. It accomplished a better record than the former with Mapelli commandeering the car to achieve a 6:44.97 lap time.

Its reworked engine produced 770hp with 720Nm of torque and adopted Lamborghini’s active aerodynamics system alongside the LDVA 2.0 system. Thanks to its lightweight engineering (incorporating extensive use of carbon fiber and a titanium exhaust) the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ boasts a weight-to-power ratio of just 1,98kg per hp.

    Aventador LP 780-4 Ultimae

The finale of the Aventador, the last aspirated V12 to be produced by Lamborghini, was announced in July 2021. The Aventador LP 780-4 Ultimae combines the most iconic design and engineering elements from the Aventador S and SVJ to present a definitive final masterpiece and pure V12 driving experience.

The Aventador LP 780-4 Ultimae produces 780 horses with 720Nm of almost instantaneous torque. It zooms from standstill to 100kph in just 2.8 seconds.

“The Lamborghini Aventador was a game-changer at its launch, and the flagship Lamborghini model for 11 years of production. The V12 engine has been part of Lamborghini’s heritage since the company’s earliest days; the beating heart of models from Miura to Diablo, Countach to Murciélago. The Aventador captured Lamborghini’s competencies in design and engineering when it debuted in 2011, with Lamborghini values that are always at the center of the company and product impetus: pure, futuristic design; benchmarking performance; and addressing technical challenges with innovation to produce the most emotive, class-leading super sports cars. These principles are the very essence of the Lamborghini Aventador, and assure its timeless appeal,” commented the Lamborghini executive.

The Lamborghini Aventador has been in production for a total of 11 years. During that time the Aventador has spanned more than eight model derivatives and has spawned over 10 one-off and limited editions. In its fifth year, the Lamborghini Aventador gave the Sant’Agata Bolognese-based brand a total sales of 5,000 units — matching the total number of Murciélago models produced.

Lamborghini has sold more Aventadors than the sum of all its previous V12 models with 11,465 cars delivered to customers worldwide.
