The Lamborghini Huracán EVO was recently hailed as 2020 Best Driver’s Car by US automotive publication MotorTrend. The latest recognition that the Huracán EVO received was based on the tests conducted by its editors and reviewers, along with race car driver Randy Pobst.
“A MotorTrend Best Driver’s Car winner doesn’t just make a talented amateur feel like a hero. It has to impress and inspire every driver, from a rookie to a pro. And in this aspect, there was no question: the Lamborghini Huracán EVO is the 2020 Best Driver’s Car. It all boils down to one thing: driver confidence,” MotorTrend said in an article posted on its website.
The Lamborghini also had the Best Driver’s Honors in 2018 for another version of the Huracán, the Performante.
MotorTrend said that for the 2020 edition, they had to cut down number of models and judges involved in the testing following the pandemic-related considerations and noted that those not included would not have ended up as contenders anyway. Their team of reviewers drove the seven contenders around Laguna Seca track in California. The evaluations were then confirmed by Pobst, who also took the cars through their paces on the track.
Pobst said in the MotorTrend article that the Lamborghini Huracán EVO has “tremendous cornering grip, quick turn-in, real quick steering response, but absolutely planted in the back.”
“And as I got more and more confident and aggressive, I could get a little bit of rotation, but I had to ask for it, which I like. I want to be the one making it rotate. I don't want a car to do it on its own. And that’s where the Lamborghini was,” Pobst added.
The Lamborghini Huracán EVO is powered by a 5.2-liter, naturally-aspirated V10 engine that can dish out 640 horsepower and 600 Nm torque. The distinct whistles came from the titanium intake valves and a new lightweight exhaust system, which also helps the all-wheel-drive Huracán EVO to reach 0-100 kilometers per hour (km/h) in 2.9 seconds, and to 200 km/h in 9.0 seconds. This upgraded version of the Lamborghini Huracán can reach break-neck speeds of up to more than 325 km/h.
Aside from that, the Huracán EVO also has rear-wheel steering, torque vectoring and the Lamborghini Dinamica Veicolo Integrata that controls the car’s dynamic systems and set-up to anticipate the next move and needs of the driver.
The Lamborghini Huracán EVO has three driving modes—Strada, Sport, Corsa—which can be selected via the Anima controller. The Strada is for driving enjoyment, the Sport for “extremely exciting” while the Corsa the gives the supercar reactive and exhilarating turns, perfectly suited for the racetracks.
The Lamborghini Huracán EVO’s sports a new front bumper that has a splitter with integrated wing, as well as enlarged air intakes. The rear, on the other hand, wears a new sports exhaust system placed high up in the bumper, and a slotted spoiler that improves air flow.
