The competition in the luxury SUV segment heats up further as Lamborghini Philippines announced that the latest version of the Urus is now available in the country.
Touted as the brand's “super sport utility vehicle,” the local importer for the Sant'Agata Bolognese-based automaker is now offering the Urus that offers “high load capacity, maximum comfort during long journeys, and thrilling super sports dynamics on any surface.”
The Lamborghini Urus is powered by a 4.0-liter, twin-turbo V8 engine — the first turbocharged engine from the vehicle manufacturer — that can produce a maximum of 650hp and 850Nm of pulling power. This vehicle can reach 100kph from standstill in 3.6 seconds and up to 200kph in 12.8 seconds. The maximum speed of the luxury SUV is 305kph.
This is mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox, a slip-controlled converter lock-up clutch, and a specially-developed torque converter and is complemented by a four-wheel drive system and Torsen central self-locking differential that provide maximum control and agility in all driving conditions, particularly off-road. This type of differential gives as much as 70 percent of torque to the front axle, and up to 87 percent to the rear axle. An active torque vectoring system can also distribute power to each individual wheel.
The Lamborghini Urus has six different driving modes — each one fully customizing the vehicle's setup, from adjusting for the required rigidity to address a particular driving style or road condition. These driving modes are:
The first three target the on-road requirements of drivers. The Strada mode fine-tunes the vehicle’s height adapts according to speed, enhancing comfort. The Sport mode lowers it, ensuring stability and precision at all speeds, while the Corsa mode transforms the vehicle to be even more precise and performance-oriented, keeping body roll to the absolute minimum.
The three off-the-beaten-track modes — Neve, Terra, Sabbia — give the Urus a raised stance to safely tackle obstacles. The anti-roll bars provide independent asymmetric movement during cornering to ensure the best possible traction, while an electromechanical active roll stabilization system reduces roll angle on bumpy tracks and guarantees responsive steering.
Further, the Lamborghini Urus has a specially-tuned damping system incorporated in the new damper valves to continuously adjust to different driving conditions—harder when cornering and softer in a straight line. The adaptive dampers automatically adjust to the different driving modes and can even be fully customized by the driver.
The Lamborghini Urus is expected to butt heads with the Aston Martin DBX, which is set to be unveiled to the Philippine market in July, and the Bentley Bentayga.
