Lamborghini sees 2021 growth, receives 9 months' worth of orders
The Italian supercar marque expressed optimism for 2021 after it received orders covering nine-months of production, and after it delivered 7,430 cars last year, its second-best sales result.
“(Year) 2021 opened with a very positive outlook: deliveries in the first two months of this year have already surpassed those of the previous pre-pandemic period, and the orders placed thus far already cover nine months of production,” Automobili Lamborghini President CEO Stephan Winkelmann recently expressed.
The 2020 sales figure is behind Lamborghini's 2019 record with 8,205 cars delivered.
The United States was the top market with 2,224 cars sold, followed by Germany (607), Mainland China, Hong Kong and Macao (604), Japan (600), United Kingdom (517) and Italy (347).
This happened despite the production line in Italy being suspended for 70 days, following the Italian government safety directives amid the COVID-19 pandemic, and for the safety of workers from the virus.
And yet despite the production halt, Lamborghini ended fiscal year 2020 with a turnover of 1.61 billion euros, just 11 percent down from 2019.
This year, the company expects China to be the second best-selling market, and recently came out with new models.
The Huracán Super Trofeo Omologata (STO) was unveiled at the end of 2020, and will be joined by two new products based on the V12, Lamborghini added. The STO is essentially a road-going version of a Huracán race car.
“Our immediate responsiveness, an ideal model mix, and the growing demand for customization of our products pushed profitability to the highest levels," Winkelmann added.
"In such a difficult year, the brand demonstrated great strength and continued its growing appeal, bucking the trend in the global luxury industry.”
