Land Rover, Lego unveil Defender 90 set

Land Rover and Lego have unveiled the Lego Icons Classic Land Rover Defender 90.

The 2,336-piece set, the British automotive brand explained, comes complete with off-road accessories like a roof rack, raised air intake, front bumper with working winch, side rails and toolbox, as well as traction plates for crossing mud and sand.

It also has a working steering and suspension, opening doors and hood, and an interior with details based on the full-size Land Rover Classic Defender.

Further, the Lego set has a two-in-one format, so builders can create an everyday road-ready model or customize it for adventures.

“Defender is synonymous with adventure and this new Lego set is a perfect way to capture the spirit of an incomparable, unstoppable automotive icon, whilst also sharing the playful side of the vehicle,” said Land Rover Classic Director Paul Barritt.

To help build buzz during its unveiling, the Lego Group displayed a real Classic Defender in the Scottish Highlands and used it to house the hardest-to-reach Lego store in the world.

“Bringing the Classic Defender to life in bricks was no easy challenge. Defender can take you anywhere, so during the design process we wanted to infuse the set with that sense of adventure. We can’t wait to see fans’ reactions,” commented Lego Design Master Kurt Kristiansen.

The Lego Icons Classic Land Rover Defender 90 set will be available from April 1. It is priced at US$239.99 (around P13,048).
