Lexus has removed the drapes off the all-new TX, a luxury sport utility vehicle (SUV) said to have been built specifically for the brand’s North American market customers.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
How many variants does the all-new Lexus TX have?
The Lexus TX has three variants: TX 350, TX 500h, and TX 500h+.When will the Lexus TX be released in the United States (US)?
Per Lexus, the all-new TX will be released in the US this fall (from September to December).Upon launch, the all-new Lexus TX will be offered in three variants: TX 350, TX 500h, and TX 500h+.
The Lexus TX 350 is powered by a 2.4-liter gasoline engine mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission while the TX 500h gets a similarly-sized 2.4-liter setup, but will use a turbo hybrid system and is paired with a six-speed automatic.
Meanwhile, the Lexus TX 500h+ is equipped with a beefier 3.5-liter plug-in hybrid system married to a continuously variable transmission.
Further, the Lexus TX 350 can be had with either a front-wheel drive or an all-wheel drive setup while the TX 500h and the TX 500h+ will both be fitted with the brand’s Direct4 all-wheel drive technology.
Exterior-wise, the Lexus TX does bear some semblance to its not-so-opulent counterpart, the Toyota Grand Highlander. To each side of the fascia are small indentations that house the front fog lamps. And while the actual grille and headlamps appear to have different design cues, you can tell that they’re cut from the same cloth.
To the side of the Lexus TX are similar wheel arches that can be found on the US-market Toyota Grand Highlander. It also sports the same claddings on the bottom of each of its doors. However, the side mirrors of the former appear to be more angular and aggressive compared to the latter.
At the rear of the Lexus TX is a more distinct look, one that’s akin to the recently launched GX off-road SUV. Prominent is its boxy design with both taillamps being connected by a horizontal light bar with the Lexus script written above it.
One of its strongest selling points is its spacious three-row cabin, which focuses on passenger comfort and offers a generous third-row seat that comfortably accommodates two adults. It also provides superior noise reduction as well as a spacious cargo area, ensuring ample storage space even when all seats are occupied.
Inside the Lexus TX is a 14-inch touchscreen infotainment system complementing the digital instrument cluster found past the SUV’s multi-functional steering wheel. Optionally, those looking to drive the TX home can opt to add features such as a color head-up display and a digital rearview mirror.
In terms of safety, Lexus said that every TX SUV comes with the Lexus Safety System+ 3.0, which offers features such as a pre-collision system that is designed to alert drivers of oncoming traffic at intersections.
Lexus is yet to reveal the pricing for the TX. However, Toyota’s luxury division has confirmed that the luxury three-row SUV will arrive in the United States this fall (from September to December).
