Lexus tops 2023 J.D. Power Dependability Study

Japanese luxury automotive marque Lexus has proven its reliability once again after being the highest overall in the latest J.D. Power Vehicle Dependability Study in the United States (US).

The data analytics firm said that Toyota’s premium brand had a rating of 133 problems per 100 vehicles (PP100), 11 points ahead of Hyundai sub-brand Genesis and 19 points away from Kia, (which is the leading mass market brand in the study).

Per J.D. Power, the industry average was at 186 PP100.

To note, the 2023 US Vehicle Dependability Study is based on reactions of over 30,000 original owners of 2020 model-year vehicles after having the vehicle for three years.  The responses were fielded from August up to November 2022.

Lexus said that the 2020 model year RX sport utility vehicle as well as the Toyota CH-R had the best score among the models judged in the study after being tied at 111. Compared to 2022, the Lexus offering showed improvement in eight of the nine measured categories namely climate; driving assistance; driving experience; exterior; features, controls, and displays; infotainment; interior; powertrain; as well as seats.

Aside from the RX, the Lexus NX was also hailed as the winner in the US’ compact premium SUV segment.
