Leyte's Road-Widening Project Nearing Completion--DPWH
Leyte residents will soon enjoy wider roads as the Palo-Carigara-Ormoc Road being augmented is nearing its completion.
Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Region 8 Director Nerie Bueno, said that the road-widening project, which is eyed to be finished by February next year, is now at 84.12 percent done.
The 1.97-kilometer Palo section will have two additional lanes to the existing four lanes. The said move was meant to address traffic congestion and prevent road accidents along the Daang Maharlika Highway.
Funded under the 2019 General Appropriations Act (GAA), the PHP31-million project also involves construction of drainage system, sidewalk, curb, and gutter.
DPWH Secretary Mark Villar said that the road project is in line with the government's massive 'Build, Build, Build' program.
"Better mobility will pave way to more economic opportunities for residents and motorists who live in the area. The wider road network shall aid common users such as freight trucks and other public utility vehicles in providing faster service," Villar said.
