Lotus sales up by 24% in 2021
Last year seemed to have been a good one for Lotus. With Geely holding a controlling stake in the British sports car company and steering it into the future, Lotus looks like it’s set to bloom once again. Its transformation is reflected in the brand’s increased sales in 2021 where Lotus reportedly had its best annual global retail sales performance since 2011.

By how much did Lotus sales increase in 2021?
According to Lotus, overall sales rose by 24% last year. What affected the brand's significant sales growth?
Apart from Lotus' recent brand transformation, the release of the Sport 240 Final Edition and the Cup 250 Final Edition have positively affected the brand's overall sales.“Our global retailers have risen to the challenge of giving the Elise, Exige, and Evora the send-off they deserved. It means we’re in great shape for 2022 to focus on the all-new Lotus Emira, our last petrol-powered sports car and the best of breed,” said Lotus Executive Director of Sales and Aftersales Geoff Dowding.
In 2021, Lotus pulled the plug on the iconic Elise, Exige, and Evora, although the release of the souped-up Sport 240 Final Edition and the Cup 250 Final Edition models seemed to have helped spike up the sales with many customers looking to secure a piece of automotive history through the aforementioned conclusive models.
The introduction of new models like the Emira V6 First Edition also piqued the interest of more car buyers to once again consider the storied British brand.
That said, retailers sold 1,710 new cars in 2021 resulting in a 24-percent increase over the previous year’s 1,378-unit sales.
“In difficult circumstances, our retailers have delivered what was asked of them and more. It’s a testament to their hard work, and that of our manufacturing, marketing, sales, and distribution teams around the world. A huge thank you to everyone involved. What a way to move into the era of Emira,” commented Lotus Managing Director Matt Windle.
Lotus UK sales were up 29 percent and 37 percent in Belgium. In the US and in Canada combined, Lotus saw a whopping 111-percent increase.
On the other hand, Lotus broke record sales in the Asia-Pacific market where Japan had its best year since 2015, Australia since 2018, and Hong Kong since 2014. Qatar, which has been selling Lotus since 2016, had its best year ever. Further evidence of the ongoing transformation of the business came in Bahrain, Thailand, and New Zealand, where Lotus sold its first new cars for at least seven years.
Out of the 10 markets where the company operates, Lotus had the most sales in the US with the least numbers coming from China.
