KEY TAKEAWAYS
What is Lotus' newest ESG?
Lotus' ESG is called “Driving Change,” which has four core commitments that will pave the way for the Lotus future as a responsible global business.Does Lotus have EVs lined up from 2023 onwards?
The British luxury car brand will have three more EVs which will be released from 2023 to 2026. One is a four-door sports sedan, one is an SUV, and the last one is a next-gen sports car.According to the Norwich-based automotive brand’s new ESG Charter, all of the new mainstream vehicles from Lotus from 2023 will be fully electric.
The move, per Lotus, was inspired by the first British electric hypercar, the Lotus Evija, in 2019. In 2021, Lotus launched the Emira, and although it was powered by an internal combustion engine, it was designed and engineered to be more than 95 percent recoverable and more than 85 percent recyclable.
This year, Lotus launched the Eletre, a bold new hyper-SUV that sees the iconic Lotus sports car DNA evolve for a new generation of customers. The launch of the Eletre marked the company’s transition to a full lineup of electric vehicles and seals the brand’s place in history as the world’s first established sports car maker to go fully electric.
Joining the lineup will be three more EVs in the next four years — a four-door sports sedan (the Type 133, which launches in 2023), a second SUV (Type 134, in 2025), and a lightweight next-generation sports car (Type 135, in 2026).
“Our new ESG Charter formalizes many activities that we have been carrying out for a number of years. Lotus as a business has always been agile, efficient, and impactful within the automotive industry. Now, more than ever, as we transform rapidly to become a global pioneer of electric performance vehicles, we recognize our responsibility to do so in ways that lead our industry in minimizing its impact on the environment, benefiting society and the planet as a whole,” said Lotus Cars Managing Director Matt Windle.
Through its new ESG Charter, Lotus will also be certified as a net-zero business through a commitment to become a SBTi (Science-Based Target initiative) organization, include its global community at the heart of its sustainable growth, and commit to inspiring the next generation through education and global community outreach.
