Lotus to unveil Emira at 2021 Goodwood Festival of Speed

British auto marque Lotus will be the "Central Feature" brand, and will showcase its new and long-teased Emira, at the 2021 Goodwood Festival of Speed in July. 

The Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK has become known for its Central Features. It celebrates the greatest achievements of a manufacturer or milestone each year through art, Lotus said. 

Lotus was last selected as the Central Feature marque in 2012, and it displayed a 3D infinity loop sculpture that "celebrated the singularity of purpose of a Lotus race car."

Lotus boasted that its sculpture this year is guaranteed to be just as "visually stunning as previous years," and designed to be more interactive and accessible for those joining from home.

"This new approach aligns perfectly with Lotus’ development of innovative technology and its engineering-led approach to design and manufacturing, as well as complementing the long and often intertwined histories of Goodwood and Lotus," Lotus said. 

The Lotus Type 25 still holds Goodwood Motor Circuit’s period lap record. In Easter Monday 1965, in the course of winning the last ever Formula 1 race at Goodwood, Jim Clark in a Lotus 25 tied for fastest lap with Jackie Stewart, with a time of one minute and 20.4 seconds. 

"The record stands as a tribute to the skill and bravery of the drivers and to the passion for lightweight engineering...that thrives at Lotus to this day," the British auto marque said. 

At this year’s event, Lotus will give a public debut for the Emira. Developed as part of the ongoing transformation of Lotus, the Emira is poised to feature new technology, comfort, functionality, and everyday useability for Lotus.

The Emira will go into production later this year at an all-new manufacturing facility at Hethel, Norfolk, the home of Lotus since 1966. The "eh-mee-ra" will also be the brand's last car to be powered by a combustion engine. 

The electric Evija (below, pronounced as "eh-vi-ya") could also make an appearance in Goodwood. The e-hypercar can race from zero to 100kph in under three seconds, and accelerate to a top speed of more than 300kph, according to its specs sheet.
