LTFRB rolls out Holy Week initiatives

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) announced the initiatives it has rolled out to ensure that motorists and commuters can travel safely this Holy Week.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • How will the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) help motorists and commuters this Holy Week?

Per the agency, it has deployed enforcers on public terminals to help with traffic and passenger flow this Holy Week.
  • How does LTFRB’s Board Resolution No. 009 help Filipino travelers during the Holy Week?

The agency’s Board Resolution No. 009 extends the special permits of public utility buses, which ensures that those who will take long vacations during the Lenten season will have a means of traveling back and forth to their destinations.
  • Under “Oplan Biyaheng Ayos: Semana Santa and Summer Vacation 2023,” the LTFRB said that it has dispatched its enforcers through its Regional Directors to help control traffic and passenger flow in public terminals in the country.

“This year, after a long break due to the pandemic, we expect a huge influx of travelers going to the provinces either for leisure travel or to join their families for the long Holy Week break,” said LTFRB Chairman Teofilo Guadiz III.

Additionally, the agency’s leader pointed out that the abovementioned enforcers will be conducting spot inspections on public utility vehicle drivers and conductors who are on duty to make certain that they are not under the influence of alcohol, illegal drugs, or narcotics.

The deployed enforcers will also be checking public utility buses not only to confirm that they are roadworthy but also to ensure that no colorum buses will be plying during the Holy Week.

Further, the agency’s enforcers will verify that public health protocols are followed as the country is still under a state of national public health emergency.

The LTFRB also issued Board Resolution No. 009, which extends the special permits of public utility buses.

Guadiz explained that the extension of the special permit for public utility buses aims to ensure that those who will take long vacations during the Lenten season will have a means of traveling back and forth to their destinations.

“That is why we are doing everything to make sure that passengers are provided the public transport service they deserve so that their travel experience after a long period of zero travel will be truly worth it. At the LTFRB, public service never stops, and we will see to it that travelers’ and their families’ journey this Holy Week will be hassle- and trouble-free, using a convenient, accessible, safe and secure, and affordable public transportation system,” stated the LTFRB Chairman.
