LTFRB Sets Recalibration of 29,000 Taxi Meters for Fare Hike
At least 29,000 taxis will have their meter re-calibrated to reflect the approved fare hike, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) said on Friday, June 22.
With the hike, taxis will now charge P13.50 per kilometer on top of the P40 flag down rate. A P2 per minute travel time charge will also take effect.
The petition for the fare hike increase was filed with the LTFRB board in 2012, but it was only in late 2017 that it was approved. The last taxi fare hike was in 2010, when the per-kilometer rate was increased from P2.50 to P3.50.
LTFRB board member Atty. Aileen Lizada said that only taxis that are registered under hailing apps such as MyCab will be eligible for re-calibration to weed out colorum taxis. The scheduled re-calibration of taxi meters will coincide with the fare adjustments for ride-hailing apps this July.
