KEY TAKEAWAYS
What are the expiration dates covered by the plastic cards secured by LTO?
According to LTO the expiration dates that can be covered by the cards it secured are from April 1, 2023 up to September 30, 2023.How many renewal dates did LTO set?
LTO has set six renewal dates for drivers with expired licenses.“Meron na po tayong sapat na bilang ng plastic cards to cover the printing of the driver’s licenses that expired mula April 1 hanggang September 30 dahil sa tulong ng ating DOTr (Department of Transportation) Secretary Jaime Bautista ay mas pinadami ang production at mas pinabilis ang delivery para ma-address na natin ang backlog sa driver’s license (we already have enough number of plastic cards to cover the printing of the driver’s licenses that expired from April 1 until September 30 thanks to the help of DOTr Secretary Jaime Bautista, which boosted the production and sped the delivery of plastic cards, to address our driver’s license backlog),” LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Attorney Vigor Mendoza II noted.
In addition, the agency revealed six sets of renewal dates for motorists with licenses that have expired on the aforementioned dates.
For driver’s licenses that expired from April 1 to 30, the scheduled renewal dates are from October 6-31, 2023. Meanwhile, those with driver’s licenses that expired from May 1-31 can renew their licenses from November 1-30, 2023.
As for those with licenses that expired from June 1 to 30, LTO said that the schedule for renewal is from December 1-31, 2023. On the other hand, motorists with driver’s licenses that expired from July 1 to 31 can have their permits renewed from January 1-31, 2024.
LTO added that drivers with licenses that expired from August 1 to 31 will have a scheduled renewal date from February 1-29, 2024. Lastly, expired driver’s licenses from September 1 to 30 can be renewed from March 1-31, 2024.
Per LTO, the reason for the renewal date segmentation is to avoid congestion in all the agency’s offices across the country.
“Ang iniiwasan natin dito ay dahil nga may plastic card na ay biglang bugso ng tao sa ating mga opisina para mag-renew. Gusto nating magkaroon ng sistema upang mabilis at komportable sa ating mga kababayan (what we’re avoiding here is the surge of people looking to renew their licenses since we already have plastic cards. We want to have a system to ensure a fast and comfortable process for our countrymen),” Mendoza added.
The renewal process, Mendoza said, will only take around 15 minutes.
“Mabilis lang po ang proseso ng pag-renew, it will only take around 15 minutes at ang maganda pa dito ay nilagyan natin ng sistema ito para hindi matagal yung waiting time (the renewal process is quick, it will only take around 15 minutes and what’s good about this is that we have a system in place to reduce the wait time),” Mendoza explained.
Those who have already renewed their licenses and were only given paper-printed driver’s licenses need not worry too. According to the LTO Chief Assistant Secretary, all they need to do is go back to the licensing office and present the receipt of their payment for the issuance of the plastic version of the driver’s license.
