LTO extends DL validity
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has announced the extension of expired driver’s licenses.

According to the agency, the expired cards will be returned to their owners and will be honored as a valid license until a new plastic card has been issued.According to the agency, driver’s license cards with expiration dates from April 3, 2023 to April 1, 2024 will be extended.
Upon renewal, the system-generated driver’s license receipt will be marked “Valid as Temporary Driver’s License Until Plastic Card is Released” including the following information:
- Name of the issuing office, contact personnel, mobile phone number, and email address
- Name and signature of the releasing officer
- Screenshot of the driver’s license card (front and back) printed at the back of the official receipt
Per the government’s land transportation arm, the old and expired license card will be returned to the owner and will be honored as a valid license until a new plastic card has been issued.
However, a temporary restraining order halted the production of drivers license cards.
Further, the LTO previously pushed the utilization of electronic driver’s license cards (eDL).
However, the agency clarified then that e-DL cannot be used as replacement for the physical cards.
