Per LTO, most of the delinquent motor vehicles are motorcycles.According to LTO, all the apprehended violators were from Metro Manila, which it said has the highest number of delinquent motor vehicles.
That said, the country’s land transportation bureau’s Law Enforcement Section began deploying enforcers in areas where motorcycles usually travel, such as along Katipunan Avenue and along Aurora Boulevard.
“Napakaraming motorsiklo ang hindi rehistrado at batay sa ating record, marami sa mga ito ay hindi nakarehistro ng isa hanggang limang taon. Hindi natin papayagan ito at makakaasa ang ating mga kababayan na gagawa tayo ng mga aksyon upang mapilitan ang mga may-ari nito na magparehistro (a lot of motorcycles are unregistered and based on our record, many of them are unregistered for one to five years. We will not allow this and our countrymen can expect that we will take actions to force its owners to register),” said LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Attorney Vigor Mendoza II.
Per the agency, there are approximately 24.7 million delinquent vehicles in the Philippines. These are motor vehicles whose owners either failed or deliberately refused to have their motor vehicles registered.
Most of those delinquent motor vehicles — based on the LTO records — are motorcycles.
“The operation we conducted in Metro Manila should serve as a warning to all delinquent motor vehicle owners to register them in the soonest possible time. Huwag na ninyong hintayin pa na mahuli kayo dahil mas malalang problema ang kakaharapin ninyo (the operation we conducted in Metro Manila should serve as a warning to all delinquent motor vehicle owners to register them in the soonest possible time. Don't wait any longer to get caught because you're going to be in more serious trouble),” warned the LTO Chief.
Mendoza also said that the crackdown on unregistered motor vehicles is expected to be carried out across the Philippines.
