Mahindra rolls out Bolero Neo SUV with micro-hybrid tech in India
Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., one of the leading automobile companies in India and the world’s largest tractor company by volume, launched the new Bolero Neo. Among the highlights of the new model is its micro-hybrid technology.
The Bolero Neo's 1.5-liter mHawk100 diesel engine, which produces 100hp and 260Nm of torque, is mated to a micro hybrid technology with electronic start-stop (ESS).
A feature found in many other vehicles, it basically shuts off the engine when the comes to a stop, then restarts it once when acceleration is needed. The aim of ESS to avoid the fuel consumption that excess idling creates.
Mahindra said that the Bolero Neo's design and classy interior were crafted by Italian automotive designer Pininfarina. The Indian company also claimed that after this rear-wheel drive variant, a model with manual-lock differential will soon follow.
The SUV's boxy design is complemented by color choices such as: rocky beige, majestic silver, highway red, pearl white, diamond white, napoli black, and royal gold.
As for the interior, Mahindra showed a predominately beige one in the Bolero Neo. Fabric wraps all the seats, while a center armrest is provided for the front and rear occupants. The third row's sideways-facing seats on each side will carry the extra two passengers.
A seven-inch infotainment screen hovers above the shifter for the standard manual transmission. The infotainment features a voice messaging function, while cruise control is there for the driver's benefit.
Among the list of safety equipment, there's automatic door locks, Isofix child seats mounts, and headlights that follow the curvature of the road. When the Bolero Neo's occupants disembark and walk away from the car, the lights will also momentarily illuminate their path.
