Marcos Highway To Be Partially Closed From June 1 To July 13
Expect the traffic on Marcos Highway east of Metro Manila to worsen once more as a portion of it will be closed to motorists from June 1, 2017 to July 13, 2017 as the construction of the Masinag station of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) Line 2 East Extension project begins.
According to the Department of Transportation (DOTr), both eastbound and westbound lanes of Marcos Highway from the Cornel Hospital to SM City Masinag will be closed to traffic.
As such, motorists coming from Sumulong Highway-Marcos Highway Intersection going to Cubao or C-5 may pass either through Sumulong Highway-A. Bonifacio Avenue-Aurora Boulevard or Ortigas Avenue while those coming from Cubao or C-5 going to Antipolo may take A.Bonifacio-Sumulong Highway.
The LRT Line 2 East Extension Project extends the current line by four more kilometers from the Santolan, Pasig City station, which currently is the end of the line, to Masinag in Antipolo, Rizal. Besides the Masinag station, another station will be constructed in front of Robinson's Metro East and Santa Lucia in Cainta, Rizal.
When completed, the line extension and its two stations are expected to accommodate 80,000 passengers daily in addition to the current LRT Line 2 average daily ridership of 240,000 and reduce travel time from Masinag to the Claro M. Recto station in Manila by 30 to 40 minutes compared to the average of three hours it takes to drive between the same two points.
Construction of the two stations is expected to be completed in August 2018, with operations expected to start in the first quarter of 2019.
