Mazda Philippines has officially brought in the CX-60 to local roads.
Mazda Philippines President and Chief Executive Officer Steven Tan said that the newly-launched model is the “evolution of Mazda Premium.” “It offers unmatched distinction in every way,” he added.
The front-engine rear-wheel drive vehicle is said to be the latest iteration of the Jinba-Ittai driving experience.
Offered in two powertrain options, the new Mazda CX-60 is powered by either gasoline or diesel engines (both 3.3-liter with mild-hybrid setup) mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The gasoline-powered turbo-charged 3.3-liter inline-six HEV e-Skyactiv-G engine can put out 280 horsepower (hp) and 450 Newton-meters (Nm) of torque and can reach 100 kilometers per hour (kph) from standstill in 6.9 seconds.
On the other hand, the diesel-propelled mill turbo-charged 3.3L inline-six HEV e- Skyactiv-D can deliver lower hp (nearly 251 horses) but higher pulling power (550Nm) — allowing the vehicle to sprint 0-100kph in 7.3 seconds.
Both offerings can reach a top speed of 219 kph.
In addition, the use of an electronically controlled multi-plate system instead of a torque converter resulted in rhythmic switching between gears while also enabling accurate control of the M Hybrid Boost electric motor.
The Japanese automaker’s local distributor also shared that the vehicle features a rear-biased i-ACTIV All-Wheel Drive system supported by Mazda Intelligent Drive Select (Mi-Drive) and comes with four driving modes (normal, sport, off-road, and towing).
On the outside, the latest offering did not possess strong character lines to express the “Evolved Kodo” design language. It also wears a long hood and rearward cabin design.
At the fore is the iconic wing shape grille bordered by adaptive LED headlamps.
Although sporting varying patterns, both Mazda CX-60 trims sit on 20-inch aluminum alloy wheels with 235/50R20 tires.
To identify one over the other, the gasoline-powered option is fitted with diamond-cut alloy wheels, gloss black bar-type grille, and bright chrome on the front signature wing, fender garnish, side window molding, and exhaust finishers, while the one with a diesel engine has black metallic alloy wheels, gloss black honeycomb grille and side view mirrors, black chrome on the front signature wing, fender garnish, and exhaust finishers, and matte black side window molding.
Inside the cabin are three displays (12.3-inch fully digital driver’s instrument panel, a 12.3-inch infotainment center display, and a 10.4-inch heads-up display), Mazda Commander Control knob, and two USB Type C ports at the rear.
Further, the infotainment system has the latest-generation Mazda Connect infotainment system that has wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto connectivity. It is paired with a 12-speaker Bose sound system.
Other features of the Mazda CX-60 are the upholstery (black Nappa, aluminum panel, and silver accents on the gas-powered type while tan Nappa, quilted Leganu suede inserts, graphite panels and gunmetal accents on the diesel version), 10-way power front seat adjustment, front seat ventilation, electric steering wheel adjustment, wireless device charging, ambient lighting, and dual-zone climate control with rear vents.
Its cargo space can reach up to 570 liters, making it the most practical vehicle in Mazda’s roster.
A new innovation from Mazda — the Driver Personalization System — debuted in the CX-60. The said technology makes it easy for drivers to achieve their ideal driving position.
After entering the driver’s height data via the infotainment center display, the automatic driving position guide uses an in-car camera to detect the location of their eyes. It then automatically adjusts the seat, steering wheel, Active Driving Display, and door mirrors to match the driver’s height and eye position.
The system also uses facial recognition to remember each driver’s preferences. Once the driver is detected, the Mazda CX-60 automatically restores more than 250 stored settings to match their preferences, including vehicle, audio, and climate control settings. The system stores settings for up to six different users, plus guests.
Moreover, the driver entry/exit assist function slides the steering wheel and seat out of the way to make it easier for drivers to get into and out of the Mazda CX-60.
Furthermore, the Mazda CX-60 offers a host of i-Activsense driver assistance systems that are designed to guarantee safety for occupants as well as other road users — including pedestrians. These include the see-through view (which builds on Mazda’s current 360-degree view monitor by projecting natural footage of the vehicle’s surroundings), hill descent control, and blind spot monitoring with vehicle exit warning.
Also, the rear cross traffic alert has been updated and now comes with rear cross brake support.
The standard safety features found within the CX-60 are the Mazda radar cruise control, front smart brake support with forward obstruction warning, rear smart brake support, lane departure warning with lane keep assist, front cross traffic alert, driver monitoring system, and driver attention alert.
Offered in Rhodium White Premium (newest color option from Mazda), Soul Red Crystal, Machine Gray, Platinum Quartz, Sonic Silver, Deep Crystal Blue, and Jet Black, the pricing for the Mazda CX-60 are the following:
Consistently, the Mazda CX-60 is packaged with a five-year free service plan (which covers the expenses of periodic maintenance at either six-month or 10,000-kilometer intervals for up to five years or 100,000 kilometers, whichever comes first) and a three-year bumper-to-bumper warranty.
