Mazda celebrates CX-60 PHEV production in Yamaguchi

Mazda conducted a ceremony on April 18 to celebrate the production of the upmarket SUV, the CX-60. Present were Mazda Representative Director, President and CEO Akira Marumoto and Mazda Workers’ Union Executive Committee President Satoru Harada. Both execs delivered speeches and warmly welcomed their employee representatives’ commitment.

A commemorative vehicle was also introduced to the audience during the event.

In a recent press release, Mazda shared that approximately 100 people were in attendance which included employees of the Hofu Plant, Mazda’s suppliers, and Yamaguchi Prefecture officials. Many others, per Mazda, joined online to see the brand’s first plug-in hybrid SUV.

Mazda’s new flagship represents everything that the company has built into its DNA over the last 100 years and is considered by Mazda fans as the most important model it has introduced for over a decade.

The Mazda CX-60 boasts outstanding exterior and interior design to the finest Japanese craftsmanship, the latest innovations in human-centric technologies, and a world-class powertrain. The latter introduces Mazda’s full plug-in hybrid technology into the European market with a combination of the brand’s Skyactiv-G 2.5 gasoline engine paired with a large 129kW electric motor, an all-new eight-speed automatic transmission, and a 355-volt 17.8kWh high-capacity battery.

This powertrain setup allows the hybrid SUV to put out around 322 horses with 500Nm of torque.

According to Mazda, mass production of European-spec CX-60s started on March 15 and the vessel carrying the first shipment of CX-60s is due to depart for the contienent on April 26. Available to order now, the first Mazda CX-60 models will arrive in the UK later this summer (from June to September).
