What would an uber, good-looking Mazda MX5 Retractable Fastback--or MX-5 RF, for short--be without manual transmission?
Our answer? Dull. Drab. Dreary.
The good news is that this best-selling, two-seater sports car in history now comes with a six-speed manual transmission variant this year. Weighing around 1,103 kg, it's 30 kg lighter compared to its automatic sibling--yet still as powerful as ever. Power and torque still comes at 158 hp and 200 Nm of torque, with its rear suspension more refined and its soft-top trim re-tuned for better power steering action. Of course, the standard black leather gives the interiors an elegant finish.
Everything in the MX-5 RF "has been carefully designed to deliver driving pleasure and enhance the power of those sitting behind the wheel." Its retractable hardtop integrates the latest 'Kodo – Soul of Motion' design philosophy. It can "be opened while driving (up to 10 kph), and transfers you from the quiet of the cabin to the exhilarating joy of open air driving in just 13 seconds."
The Mazda MX-5 also forges ahead with a great ride and handling, thanks to its award-winning SKYACTIV Technology, its updated suspension, retuned chassis, and recalibrated Electric Power Assist Steering (EPAS).
Aside from adding manual transmission in the mix, the 2018 Mazda MX-5 also offers newer safety features, more color options, and updated prices:
