Months after the CX-60 was introduced to the Philippine market, its bigger brethren — the CX-90 —made its local debut.
According to Mazda Philippines President and Chief Executive Steven Tan described the three-row sport utility vehicle (SUV) as the “pinnacle of Mazda Premium.”
“It is our most advanced model ever with exceptional levels of sophistication all throughout that can be enjoyed not just by the driver, but by the whole family,” he said.
“It offers powerful and responsive performance, alluring design, and intuitive technology. The CX-90 is a breakthrough vehicle not just in its segment, but in our quest to become a brand with premium aspirations,” he added.
Mazda’s second model under its Large Product Platform, the CX-90 is 5,120 millimeters (mm) long, and 1,994 mm wide with a 3,120-mm wheelbase.
While a little beefier than the Mazda CX-60, the newly-revealed model still shows curves that give the model a certain level of sophistication with the different shades created by the reflections of light and shadow — matching the chrome trimmings around the vehicle.
Additionally, the Mazda CX-90 sits on 21-inch diamond-cut black metallic wheels.
Further, Mazda Philippines also gave the sport utility vehicle a distinct body color option under Takuminuri — Artisan Red Premium. The aforementioned hue is akin to mature fine wine.
Inside, the Mazda CX-90 showcases a refined cabin with a well-crafted interior as seen on the Nappa leather and Leganu suede inserts, as well as metallic accents on the dashboard and doors.
The model’s entry-level variation can carry eight occupants, while the top-of-the-line version has a six-seater configuration.
Its luggage capacity can grow from 257 liters to as much as 2,025 liters when the middle and last rows are folded flat. Making cargo loading and unloading easier, the Mazda CX-90 has a power tailgate.
Propelling the newly-revealed model is the all-new e-Skyactiv-G 3.3-liter inline-six turbo mill, which gives 280 horsepower (hp) and 450 Newton-meters of torque. It is combined with a 48-volt hybrid system with a lithium-ion battery that allows the Mazda CX-90 to run solely on electric energy if it has enough juice in its system.
The powertrain comes in an eight-speed automatic gearbox.
To boost the enjoyable driving experience, the front-engine, rear-wheel-bias all-wheel drive Mazda CX-90 features has a kinematic posture control and the Mazda Intelligent Drive Select (Mi-DRIVE) system that offers four switchable drive modes: normal, sport, off-road, and towing.
Comfort features that can be found in the include the 12.3-inch infotainment center display, a fully-digital 12.3-inch driver’s instrument panel; a 10.4-inch heads-up display; the latest Mazda Connect system that has wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity; a 12-speaker Bose sound system; tri-zone climate control; panoramic sunroof; rear door sunshades; second- and third-row USB-C charging ports; ambient lighting.
Moreover, the new vehicle comes with the Mazda Driver Personalization System that automatically adjusts the seats, door mirrors, heads-up display, and steering wheel with the help of facial recognition technology. It can also store up to 250 tailored settings to match the driver’s preferences, including vehicle, audio, and climate settings.
Helping the driver alight and get into the vehicle is the Driver Entry/Exit Assist automatically slides the seats and steering wheel back.
Likewise, it also tailored with various i-Activsense safety technologies such as front and rear smart brake support; Mazda radar cruise control with cruising and traffic support; adaptive LED headlamps; lane departure warning with lane keep assist; blind spot monitoring with vehicle exit warning; front and rear cross traffic alert with brake support.
Furthermore, the Mazda CX-90’s see-through View of the 360-degree view monitor displays possible obstacles in the vehicle’s blind spots on the center display.
“The Mazda CX-90 establishes a new dimension in luxury SUVs. This is more than Mazda’s new flagship SUV; it is an expression of exceptional craftsmanship and human-centric technologies, a sophisticated and dynamic vehicle for families and lovers of adventure,” Tan concluded.
Available in Artisan Red Premium, Rhodium White Premium, Machine Gray, Platinum Quartz, Sonic Silver, Deep Crystal Blue, and Jet Black, the Mazda CX-90 is offered in two variants at the following prices inclusive of a five-year free service plan:
