Mazda Philippines and the Manila Sports Car Club (MSCC) announced the start of the 2023 season of its one-make-race series for the MX-5.
Per the Japanese automaker, a total of 22 racers onboard their track-tuned Mazda MX-5 open-top sports cars will be vying for this year’s championship.
“After the success of the MSCC Miata Spec Series last year, we couldn’t wait to get going again this 2023,” Mazda Philippines President and Chief Executive Officer Steven Tan said. “This one-make format provides a unique opportunity for MSCC members to polish their skills and enjoy the pure essence of driving that only an MX-5 can provide.”
For this year, Allan Uy, who was hailed the overall victor during the inaugural season, returns to the series to defend his crown. Meanwhile, his closest rivals Angie King and Tyson Sy shall also be joining the races anew to snatch the title.
Master Class Champion Windy Imperial and Novice Class Champion Jamal Almario will also participate in the competition. Joining the grid this year are Red Diwa, Tonypet Albano, and Mandy Eduque.
Aside from the bigger grid, the 2023 MSCC Miata Spec Series races will be held at two venues: the Clark International Speedway (CIS) and the Batangas Racing Circuit (BRC).
The first two legs will be at BRC on April 15 and June 24, while the remaining two legs will be done at the CIS on August 26 and October 28.
Inspired by the largest one-make grassroots race series in the world, the Mazda Spec Miata, the MSCC Miata Spec Series cars are all built from brand-new Mazda MX-5 Soft Top units.
