Mazda Philippines has officially revealed the latest version of the MX-5 that is set to bring the nameplate's famous exhilarating driving experience to a whole new level.
The iconic roadster, Mazda Philippines President and Chief Executive Officer Steven Tan said, “continues to be a popular and highly regarded” sports car in the country, as the local distributor already had around 1,000 units sold.
“Mazda’s lightweight, open-top formula as seen on the MX-5 has consistently been realized for more than 30 years. But we believe there is still room to involve the driver even more and enhance the emotional bond with his car. That is why we are continuing to elevate this already unique driving experience with the introduction of new features and owner-initiated options that will make future MX-5 owners even happier and fulfilled,” Tan said.
The 2022 Mazda MX-5 is still powered by a 2.0-liter Skyactiv-G engine that can deliver 181 horses and 205 Nm of torque. This is paired to either a six-speed automatic or six-speed manual.
Furthering the synergy between driver and vehicle is the new Kinematic Posture Control (KPC) that is found in the latest iteration of the Mazda MX-5. The new technology gives the vehicle a more stable turning posture even when attacking corners at high speeds — without putting additional weight on the vehicle.
The KPC — combined with the rear suspension system's anti-lift engineering — applies a light brake force in the inner wheel under high G-Force cornering, reducing body roll and stabilizing the posture of the vehicle occupants (which helps provide a better grip on the road).
Mazda Philippines shared that the KPC “can determine turning conditions in real time.”
“It detects the difference in speed between left and right rear wheels, and operates linearly and seamlessly to produce an appropriate posture stabilization effect. And the harder the drive becomes, the sharper the rear end of the MX-5 becomes as it smartly adjusts its turning posture,” the company said.
On the outside, the 2022 Mazda is being offered in a new body color, Platinum Quartz Metallic, to replace the Arctic White hue.
For the vehicle’s interior, the 2022 Mazda MX-5 is fitted either with the traditional Black Leather trim or the new Terracotta Nappa leather seats.
Further, the 2022 Mazda MX-5 is also equipped with i-Activsense safety technologies such as adaptive LED headlamps, smart city brake support and lane departure warning for the top-ranging MX-5 options. Dual front and side airbags come as standard across the range.
Moreover, Mazda Philippines said that the refreshed Mazda MX-5 can be customized under the “Build Your MX-5” program — wherein 76 possible combinations can be employed in the roadster to suit the buyer’s preferences.
The 2022 Mazda MX-5 is offered in retractable fastback or with soft top options that are subdivided in Skyactiv and Club Edition varieties.
Below is the suggested price for the 2022 Mazda MX-5:
Just like every Mazda vehicle offered locally, the 2022 MX-5 is packaged with the Five-Year Free Service Plan that covers the expenses of periodic maintenance for up to five years or 100,000 kilometers.
