Bermaz Auto Philippines Inc. (BAP), the distributor of
Mazda vehicles in the Philippines since January 2013, is
recalling an
unspecified number of current-generation Mazda BT-50 pickup trucks for an
issue with its door latch.
According to BAP, the affected units bear the
following vehicle identification numbers (VIN)--
MM7 UP*** **110091-45150--and were
manufactured from March 2, 2012 through May 15, 2015.
As is typical of most vehicle recalls made in the Philippines, the distributor failed to disclose the specific problem although a quick check with
Mazda Australia revealed that a
locating tab inside one or more of the door latches
may break, preventing the door from latching correctly which may
lead to the door unlatching while the vehicle is in motion,
"which could cause an accident or injury."
It's worth noting that BAP
will officially launch its recall special service campaign for the issue
"when needed upgraded parts arrives from Mazda Motor Corp." As to when that could be, only Mazda Philippines knows.
