Bermaz Auto Philippines (BAP) recently revealed a specially designed Mazda MX-5, which served as the company’s very own “art car.”
In a statement, the country’s exclusive distributor of Mazda vehicles said that the MX-5 Imagine (first displayed first at the Mazda Premium Experience Display at the Powerplant Mall last week) wears a custom wrap designed by car enthusiast and MX-5 ambassador, Angie Mead King.
“King used the burst of contrasting colors to exude a sense of power, motion, and energy — attributes that aptly describe the world’s best-selling roadster,” the company said in a statement.
The Mazda MX-5 Imagine will be making numerous public appearances on and off the racetrack, culminating at the 12-hour Bonifacio Cup Endurance Race in November. There, the car will be manned by King, as well as Gaby Dela Merced, Tyson Sy, and Windy Imperial.
The eye-catching livery was placed on the race car using digital printing on car wrapping vinyl to ensure that it will not interfere with the MX-5’s aerodynamic properties and lightweight design. It was Second Skin Industries who translated the 3D form into 2D for the printing process and applied the wrap to the entire vehicle.
“As an art canvas, the MX-5 is the ultimate expression of Mazda’s “Car as Art'' design philosophy. Imbued with Kodo or Soul of Motion, Mazda designers aim to capture energy in motion, even when standing still. They also infuse it with the vitality of a living creature to give it a sense of warmth and excitement. In short, it is a design that is meant to inspire,” BAP noted.
“The MX-5 is characterized by a dignified minimalist presence, a fundamental elegance based on Japanese aesthetics. The principle at Mazda is beauty through subtraction, eliminating any unnecessary elements. The bodywork features subtle sori curves favored by the ancient Japanese artisans, and utsuroi surfaces that make light and shade come to life,” it explained.
BAP President Steven Tan expressed pride over the latest creation.
“The MX-5 is known for its award-winning design as evident by being the first and only Japanese car to win both the World Car of the Year and the World Car Design of the Year in the same year,” Tan said.
“The creation of the Mazda MX-5 Imagine art car brings everything full circle. By serving as a canvas, it not only becomes a piece of beauty and sophistication, but of passion and emotion as well.”
