The Mazda MX-5 Miata has plenty of adoring fans in the Philippines, and many are probably eager to set their eyes if not get their hands on the vehicle’s 100th Anniversary Edition.
Sadly, there’s no chance of “the little Japanese car that could” ever retailing locally, as Mazda is reserving the sale of the limited edition model for the North American market only.
Mazda North American Operations announced that the 100th Anniversary Special Edition Mazda MX-5 Miata will be offered in limited numbers for the U.S. later this year, and will come in two options—a retractable fastback (RF) and an exclusive soft top in red.
Premium Snowflake White Pearl Mica will be the sole exterior paint option, which will be enhanced by red styling features all throughout.
Aside from the unique paint finish, the car will also come with minimalist badging on the front fender and wheel center caps. The fenders will carry the “100 Years 1920 – 2020” badge, while the wheel center caps will have a red and black “100th Anniversary” special logo.
Inspired by the 2020 MX-5 Grand Touring, the limited edition Miata will be powered by a 4-cylinder Skyactive-G 2.0 engine that’s good for 181hp and 205 Nm of torque. This mill can be paired with either a Skyactiv-MT six-speed manual transmission or a more accurate-shifting Skyactiv-Drive six-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters.
Manual transmission versions will include performance-enhancing pluses including a limited-slip differential, Bilstein dampers, front shock tower brace, sport-tuned suspension. The manual RF, will also be bestowed a black roof to differentiate it from its automatic sibling.
As for convenience features inside the cabin, special edition 100th Anniversary MX-5 Miata buyers can expect to find Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, heated leather seats, , automatic climate control, and hifi Bose audio system that includes driver and passenger headrest speakers for true aural pleasure.
In addition to this limited edition vehicle, the Mazda Collection is introducing 100th Anniversary Special Edition items with the MX-5’s purchase, which includes a cast metal keychain medallion, Japanese-made ceramic mugs, model cars in 1/43 scale, and the “Mazda One Hundred” coffee table book.
Local MX-5 lovers need not fret about the limited edition not making it here however, because Mazda PH has the MX-5 RF and MX-5 Soft Top available locally. The RF version starts at P2.36 million, while the Soft Top begins at P1.98 million.
