The Mazda MX-5—more commonly known as the Mazda Miata—has been one of the most successful two-seater roadster in the world for four decades already.
After spanning four generations and amassing one of the biggest cult followings for a vehicle, Mazda UK introduces a new variant of the MX-5: the Mazda MX-5 R Sport Special Edition.
Wrapped in Polymetal Grey body paint and a gray-tone soft top roof, this special edition MX-5 will only be limited to 150 units. Turning at the side, the MX-5 R Sport Special Edition is fitted with 16-inch RAYS gunmetal alloy wheels, a trifecta of perfect monotony with the body paint and convertible roof.
The new Polymetal Grey body color is a new option that is now available to the current 2020 Mazda MX-5 lineup. On the new R Sport Special Edition models, that Polymetal Gray is paired with piano black side mirrors instead of the body-colored side mirrors on regular Miatas.
Getting inside the R Sport, you will be greeted with Nappa-leather wrapped sport bucket seats in burgundy, accented with silver stitching to tie the grayscale exterior to the inside of the vehicle.
The R Sport Special Edition is fitted with a limited production engine, a 1.5 liter Skyactiv-G Sport engine that unfortunately lowers the horsepower level from the regular Miata’s 180 hp to 130 hp.
Retailing for £27,700 (Php 1.75 million), orders for the special edition MX-5 are now open, and UK deliveries will commence once travel restrictions and retail constraints are lifted.
“I’m delighted that we can offer an exclusive MX-5 Convertible model to our customers. With it joining the rest of the Convertible and RF models in the line-up, we now have a great choice of MX-5s in our updated 2020 Mazda MX-5 range, which means that anyone wanting to drive a distinctive and stylish roadster can find what they need,” shares Mazda Motors UK Managing Director Jeremy Thomson.
Back in July 2019, Mazda Philippines has brought in the limited-edition 30th anniversary MX-5.
Unlike the latest special edition MX-5, the limited MX-5 (which only has 3,000 samples around the world) is covered in Racing Orange.
